Those of you who still follow me at all know that one reason we moved to South Florida was to work with sea turtles, most especially the species who are native to this area, namely greens, loggerheads, and leatherbacks. Our son and daughter in law recently visited and we were able to take them to the amazing Gumbo Limbo Nature Center just north of us in Boca Raton. This Center is an amazing place supported by an equally amazing group we have become members of called The Coastal Stewards About 2 weeks ago I was contacted and asked if we could move in short order and if so, we could come and watch the release of Layla, a Green sea turtle that had been in rehab after being struck by a boat and also having tumors that had to be removed. On the visit by our son and his wife we were able to see Layla at Gumbo Limbo as she was under treatment. Because of the cold stunning events we have had here recently with the cold, for us, temperatures the turtle hospital was full and so triage had to be done. Layla was by far the strongest and so she was released. Marti and I were so blessed to be asked and I thought I would share with you the walk to the beach and the release of Layla, the green sea turtle. You will not see it in this video but Layla did swim out, and then stuck up her head to look back, as if to say thank you and goodbye! Blessings, Greg
