It's Mother's Day, not really an ecclesiastical holiday, but certainly one well worth paying attention too. It is also good to acknowledge that this day is not easy for everyone. We sometimes forget that. It is worth remembering here, on this day, that many women have served as mothers even if they have not brought a child into the world. I can think of many who have served that role for me at various times in my life. I am thankful for them all.
I am fortunate to be able to say this day is a good one for me. It is one when I can give thanks for two very special women. The first is, of course, my mother. I have often said if I could be half the parent that she has been to me, I would be truly doing well. She was, and is, a rock in my life. She taught me so much and if I am a good person she gets the credit. On this day I am so thankful for her, and to her for the lessons she taught me even when it was quite difficult, even when it was a risk to our relationship, even when it meant her life would be less than it could have been.
The second woman is my wife, but on this day I honor her for being the mother to my son. In this life I am gone sometimes more than I am here. Since the birth of our son my wife has loved us both and balanced her life in a way that is just mind boggling to me. She has an amazing spirit which she shares with our family, and by so doing, blesses both of us each day. I marvel at my son daily, sometimes hourly. I wonder often where he came from and to whom he belongs for all the best reasons! The credit for that wonder goes to my fabulous wife.
As I said, I am so very blessed to be able to say that this day is a good one for me. I had the best mother one could ever dream of to mother me, and I am also blessed daily to see, live, and learn from the mother of my son. Happy Mother's Day!
